For three days from April 18th to 20th 2023, Dr. Akihiko Tanaka, President of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), visited Papua New Guinea and paid courtesy calls to Prime Minister Marape, Deputy Prime Minister Rosso, Mr. Tkatchenko, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ling-Stuckey, Minister for Treasury, and Mr. Schnaubelt, Minister for Transportation and Civil aviation. He also participated in a welcome reception hosted by Mr. Paita, Minister for Finance and Planning, and the tablet-unveiling ceremony in Nadzab Airport, which is being built with a loan assistance by Japan.
 
In addition, he visited Markham Bridge built by a grant assistance, a substation of Ram-Grid being built by a loan assistance, the Media Center of the Department of Education, build by a grant assistance of Japan. Dr. Tanaka also attended meetings to exchange opinions with representatives of donor countries and organizations which are actively working in PNG, and with the students of the University of PNG during his visit. Ambassador Watanabe accompanied together in those schedules.
