The Overseas Fishery Cooperation Foundation of Japan (OFCF) is a non-profitable organization with the aim to enhance better relationships in the fisheries field between Japan and coastal countries. OFCF started a technical cooperation to transfer a method of fishing using a Japanese traditional Trap Net in PNG in 2013, and installed a total of 6 nets in Wewak, Lae and Alotau. The net in Alotau was installed in 2019 as the latest one in this project, and contributes to the sustainable fishing in PNG.

In the tour, press people had the opportunity to get on the boat with villagers and gather news materials while observing how villagers are catching fish with the net that OFCF set up. They also conducted an interview with the person in charge of National Fishery Authority in Milne Bay.
