Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers Programme (technical cooperation) and a fish farm where one volunteer transferred a technique

In PNG, the volunteers programme was established in 1980. Since then, more than 790 volunteers have been dispatched all over the country. In the history of 40 years, the volunteers have contributed to the socio-economic development of PNG. Around 2015, one Japanese volunteer, Mr. Yota Kano, devoted himself to transfer a “sex-reversal technique” at a fish farm operated by National Fishery Authority and started to grow bigger Tilapias. Those Tilapias help increase incomes of fish farm operators in Milne Bay province.
