The Project to Improve Maritime Security (grant assistance)
2020/11/12

In PNG, many people are living in coastal areas, and use varied types of boats for their living. They are facing dangers including sudden change of climate, piracy or troubles with boat engines or other equipment. As requested by NMSA, or National Maritime Safety Authority, Japan will provide three new rescue boats and tele-communication equipment in order to improve maritime security in PNG.
The three rescue boats have very powerful engines and will cover almost the entire maritime territory of PNG. The telecommunication equipment will be installed at six NMSA branches and is expected to catch almost all SOS signals from the coastal ocean in PNG. NMSA Alotau branch will have one of the three rescue boats and one of the six telecommunication equipment.
This press tour was an opportunity to reaffirm the value of this project, through the interview to the staff of NMSA in front of its new office building.
