Signing for the Exchanges of Notes on two grant assistances for Tokua Airport maintenance and hydro power station upgrade

On 25 October 2022, Ambassador Watanabe and Hon. Soroi Marepo Eoe, Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Trade signed documents for two grant assistances under the Project for Economic and Social Development Program.

The first one was to provide maintenance equipment for Tokua Airport worth 300 million Japanese yen, or approximately 10 million kina. The equipment will also be used to maintain roads around the airport. Japan believes that transport infrastructure is one of the most important areas to develop the country, and therefore commits to continuous cooperation in this area.

For the second project, Japan will upgrade Rouna3 Hydro Power Station at Sogeri by replacing old machines such as generators at the cost of 510 million yen, or about 17 million kina. This project aims to improve the electricity supply in Port Moresby.
