Signing Ceremony for the Exchanges of Notes on a grant assistance for road development (road construction and maintenance equipment)

On 22 October 2021, H.E. Mr. Kuniyuki Nakahara, Ambassador of Japan to PNG and Hon. Mr. Soroi Marepo Eoe, Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea attended the Signing Ceremony for the grant assistance for the “Project for Economic and Social Development Program for road development (road construction and maintenance equipment)”.
Japan will provide a grant assistance of 400 million yen, or approximately 13 million kina, for 24 road construction and maintenance equipment including excavators and motor graders. This economic cooperation will assist with accelerating distribution of agricultural produce by improving road construction and recovery of PNG's economic aggravation caused by Covid-19. Japan hopes to contribute to the development of PNG's economy and society through this cooperation.
This cooperation was announced at the summit meeting (video meeting) between former Prime Minister of Japan, Mr. Yoshihide Suga, and Prime Minister James Marape in June this year. Prime Minister Suga made a commitment in the meeting to provide this grant assistance of the road construction and maintenance equipment.
