Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers Programme

2019/7/5
In PNG, the volunteers programme was established in 1980. Since Volunteers were assigned to Port Moresby in July 1980, more than 780 volunteers have been dispatched all over the country. In the past of 39 years, the volunteers have contributed to the socio-economic development of PNG, and deepened the bond of friendship between Japan and PNG. As of June 2019, 35 volunteers in the field of education, healthcare, agriculture, tourism and community development are working in West New Britain, Milne Bay, Manus and other provinces. Press personnel visited Kimbe provincial hospital, where Mr. Shu Minematsu, a laboratory technician, has been teaching the staff how to use an ultra sound scanner. They also visited a primary school where Mr. Masaki Yamazaki has been teaching mathematics and sport.
