Official Launching Ceremony for the PNG Electrification Partnership

On Thursday, 7 February, Ambassador Nakajima joined Hon. Peter O’Neill, Prime Minister of PNG, at the official launching ceremony for the PNG Electrification Partnership held in Okapa District, Eastern Highlands Province.
 
The ceremony was attended by 7 cabinet ministers, besides Prime Minister O’Neill, and many Members of Parliament. More than 1,000 locals zealously welcomed the party of attendants.
 
In his speech, Prime Minister O’Neill said that he would place importance to the implementation of the electrification program in rural areas and thanked Japan, Australia, NZ and the US for joining the PNG Electrification Partnership on the occasion of the APEC Leaders’ Meeting last November.
 
Ambassador Nakajima said in his speech that the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe signed the Joint Statement of the Partnership because PNG is one of Japan’s closest friends in the Pacific region and that Japan is looking forward to working together with the PNG government and other partners on this significant Partnership.
