The Opening Ceremony of Ela Beach Redevelopment

Ambassador Satoshi Nakajima attended the opening ceremony of the Ela Kone(Ela Beach) Redevelopment project on 12 September.
The project was completed at the cost of K77 million, which includes roads, schools and hospitals, and the theater and restaurants will be opened soon. The project site is adjacent to the APEC Haus, the venue of the upcoming APEC summit. Prime Minister Peter O’Neill, APEC Minister Dustin Tkachenko, National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop, and Port Moresby City Manager Bernard Kipit. Thousands of citizens, as well as Members of Parliament and Diplomatic Corps also enjoyed live band music, traditional dancing and fireworks.
The PNG Military Band, to which Japan has been giving assistance, also made a splendid debut performance and played music at the time of arrivals of VIPs, including Prime Minister O’Neill. The Band will have prepared by November when APEC summit meeting is held.

- Donation of music note, “March Port Moresby” in August 2018
- Support by the Japanese Defence Ministry for the capacity building for the PNG Military Band through the dispatch of experts from JGSDF Central Band and accepting members of PNG Military Band to Japan for training.
- Dispatch of a JICA expert
- Donation by Sendai Ikuei Gakuen(a Japanese high school) second hand music instruments(Transport cost from Japan was borne by Japan PNG Association)
