The Opening Ceremony of the Papua New Guinea Central Bank Digital Currency Proof of Concept in Mt Hagen

On 13 May, Mr. Tamamitsu, Deputy Chief of Mission, attended the CBDC PoC ceremony in Mt Hagen of West Highlands province. In partnership with the Bank of PNG, Japanese company Soramitsu conducted a proof of concept for an advanced digital payment system. The technology is expected to bring innovation to secure and convenient cashless payments across PNG.
