- Japan Language Proficiency Test (JLPT)
The Japanese Language Proficiency Test or JLPT is a standardized criterion-reference test to evaluate and certify Japanese Language Proficiency for non-native speakers, covering language knowledge, reading ability, and listening ability. JLPT has been offered by the Japan Foundation and Japan Education Exchanges and Services (Formally association of International Education, Japan) since 1984 as a reliable means of evaluating and certifying the Japanese proficiency of non-native speakers. JLPT certificates offer various advantages, ranging from recognition as academic credit and graduation certification at school to preferential treatment at companies and acknowledgement of qualification in society.
- Learning Japanese Language in PNG
Currently, Japanese language courses are offered at Sogeri National High School. The teaching of Japanese language started in 1982 when Sogeri National High School introduced Japanese language in its school curriculum. Following Sogeri National High School, St. Ignatius and Port Moresby National high Schools, UPNG and UOG also introduced a Japanese language course with the support of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) that provides technical cooperation and other forms of aid promoting economic and social development in developing countries, and the Japan Foundation.
For this year (2026) Japan Foundation and its partners are happy once again to facilitate JLPT for applicants here in PNG. Information for JLPT 2026 is as follows:
