Announcement of Japanese Government MEXT Scholarship for 2026

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan offers scholarship for 2026 to Papua New Guinean in the following categories.
Applications in a sealed envelope shall be accepted for Research Students until 29 May 2025 and for Specialized Training College Students, until 5 June 2025. Faxed or emailed applications are not accepted.
Selection shall be carried out in three phases.
1st phase: Document screening (in PNG) (Jun/2025)
2nd phase: Exam and interview (in PNG) (Jun-Jul/2025)
3rd phase: Final screening at MEXT HQ (Jan-March/2026)
* Expected time of each phase is subject to change.
1st phase shortlisted candidates ONLY shall be contacted by the Embassy around the middle of June together with notification of the dates for exam and interview which shall be conducted around the end of June or beginning of July.

Those who are interested and wish to apply are kindly requested to read the guideline very carefully and prepare the application documents as required.
It should be noted that incomplete applications will not be evaluated and will be disqualified. Every year, many applications are disqualified due to lack of required applications documents, insufficient academic transcript that does not cover the required period, lack of recommendation letter, etc.
As for the medical certificate required in the guideline, it is only required for those who advance to exam/interview phase.
