New year greetings from Ambassador MOCHIZUKI
2026/1/1
Ambassador Hisanobu MOCHIZUKI
Happy New Year!
As we welcome 2026, I would like to extend my warmest greetings.
On 16 September last year, Papua New Guinea marked the momentous occasion of its 50th anniversary of independence. A number of ceremonies were held across the country, enveloping both the people of PNG and ourselves in a spirit of elation. As Hon. James Marape, Prime Minister of PNG stated, the 50th anniversary celebrations would continue for a full year from that day, so the festive mood may well persist into 2026.
This year also marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and PNG. The entire Embassy staff will redouble our efforts to strengthen ties between our two nations across various fields. The PNG Government has decided to implement a practical visa exemption measure for Japanese nationals by issuing visas on arrival at local airports. Furthermore, the direct flights between Port Moresby and Narita operated by Air Niugini, which had been suspended due to the pandemic, are set to resume shortly, making PNG an even more accessible destination for Japanese travelers.
I sincerely hope that exchanges between our peoples will become even more active. With heartfelt wishes for your health and happiness, I extend my New Year greetings.
