On 6 November 2024, Ambassador Watanabe attended the handover ceremony of the Project for Construction of a school building classrooms and furniture installation at Ruatoka Elementary School with the amount of approximately 270,000 kina under its Grassroots Grant Assistance Scheme.
On this occasion Ambassador stated, “His sincere appreciation to stakeholders involved for their support and efforts put in for the successful completion of the project. Japan has extended various development projects in Papua New Guinea for the past 50 years and always placed a priority in education sector. For example recently, Japan helped the Ministry of Education to compile elementary school textbooks on mathematics, which are now being distributed to schools across the country. It is significant that today's handover ceremony has become a symbol of the relationship between Japan and PNG.”
The Rigo district Admin, Mr. Murray Konido said, “We are pleased with the completion of this project. The classrooms will benefit both present and future generation of this area. He commend and thank the people and Government of Japan for its continuous support to the people of Papua New Guinea in Rigo, Central Province and look forward to Japan’s continuous support.”
