On 18th September, 2024, Ambassador Watanabe attended the handover ceremony of the Project for Construction of a School Building at Zuebak Primary School in Morobe Province. The Japanese government provided a school building with double classrooms, a teachers preparation room and furniture with the amount of approximately 300,000 kina.
On this occasion Ambassador stated, “I would like to express my sincere appreciation to all stakeholders for their support and efforts put in for the successful completion of this project. Japan has extended various development projects in Papua New Guinea for the past 50 years and always placed a priority in the education sector. For example recently, Japan helped the Ministry of Education to compile elementary school textbooks on mathematics, which are now being distributed to schools across the country. It is significant that today's handover ceremony of the school building, under Japan's cooperation, is a symbol of the relationship between Japan and PNG.”
Attending the ceremony was also the local member of parliament, member for Markham, Hon. Koni Iguan. In his remarks, he said, “Welcome to Zuebak Village. We are pleased with the completion of this project. In this occasion, I would like to commend people and Government of Japan for its continuous support to the people of Papua New Guinea and Markham district in Morobe Province. I express my gratitude for the support Japan has given to us, and also look forward to further strengthening the cooperation and support in the future.”
