Opening Ceremony of the Nadzab Tomodachi International Airport participated by State Minister Horii

On 2nd October 2023, Mr. Iwao Horii, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, participated an opening ceremony of the Nadzab Tomodachi International Airport, which was built with a loan assistance by Japan. In the ceremony, many prominent people participated from the Papua New Guinean side, such as 9 ministers including Prime Minister Marape, Deputy Prime Minister Rosso, Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Schnaubelt, Finance and Development Minister Paita, Fisheries Minister Won, Governors including Governor Wenge for Morobe Province, and high ranking officials from related ministries.
With the loan assistance of 26,942 million yen, they have done the widening and strengthening of the runway, the building and strengthening of taxiway and apron, the building of a terminal building and car park, the rehabilitation of the existing cargo terminal building, the providing of a special fire engine, and so on.
At the ceremony, State Minister Horii remarked that “it is my great pleasure to celebrate the opening of this airport, which was developed with the support of Japan and named "Tomodachi" by Prime Minister Marape, together with Prime Minister himself, ministers in attendance, government officials of airport authority, officials of Morobe Province, and many distinguished guests. I sincerely hope that this airport will be utilized to its full potential as a symbol of the friendly relations between our two countries and will be remembered as such by the people of Papua New Guinea”.
