The lecture hall was built in 1974 as a first building in the college by the fund from Japan.
On 26th July, 2023, accompanied by Rt. Hon. Sir Julius Chan, Governor of New Ireland Province, Ambassador Watanabe visited the National Fisheries College in Kavieng of the Province, where he discussed with Mr. Tarube, Principal of the College, and other teachers, and observed some facilities in the college.

This college was constructed by Japan’s first official development assistance to Papua New Guinea just before the independence of Papua New Guinea. After that, this college became a hub of the fisheries education, not only for Papua New Guineans, but also for the students from neighboring island countries of this region.
