Port call of the JMSDF IZUMO

From July 7 to 11, 2023, the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force "Izumo" made a port call at Port Moresby as part of the 2023 Indo-Pacific deployment (IPD 23). This is the first port call since the JS"Kirisame" in September last year. During her stay in Port Moresby, Izumo crew deepened ties with the PNG Defence Force through various exchanges in order to realize the common vision of the two countries, "Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP)".
In his speech at the welcoming ceremony, Ambassador Watanabe noted the good relations between the two countries in various fields since PNG's independence, and expressed his hope that the port call would contribute to the development of defense ties between the two countries.
