On March 25, Ambassador Watanabe and Mr. Powes Parkop, Governor of National Capital District (NCD), visited the Baruni dump site, which is a project site of the JICA technical cooperation, "Project for Promotion of Regional Initiative on Solid Waste Management in Island Countries Phase II (J-PRISM II)". They were briefed on waste landfill technology called the "Fukuoka Method" developed by Japan, which ensures that waste is disposed of efficiently and properly in the site.
In response to Governor Parkop's high praise of the project, Ambassador Watanabe introduced examples of Japanese economic cooperation projects in NCD, which are related to infrastructure development and environmental conservation. He also stated that such Japanese cooperation would contribute to PNG's development for many years.
