The Handover Ceremony of Solar-powered Saltwater Desalination Plant Project was held in Manus Province

Ambassador Satoshi Nakajima, the Hon. Job Pomat, Speaker of Parliament and the Hon. Richard Maru, Minister for National Planning and Monitoring attended the Handover ceremony of the Solar-powered Saltwater Desalination Plant Project at Bipi Island in Manus Province on 12 September, 2017. This project was implemented to mitigate global warming effects with funding from the Pacific Environmental Community (PEC) Fund created by Japan’s contribution. Both Speaker Pomat and Minister Maru expressed their appreciation for Japan’s assistance through the project and stated that this Plant will bring about great benefits for the islanders with improved safe and fresh water. Minister Maru also stated that the PNG Government and the islanders should take ownership to maintain this Plant in the future as a symbol of the friendship between PNG and Japan.
