Signing of the Exchange of Notes on the Grant Assistance from the Government of Japan to PNG for maritime security (three speedboats and telecommunication equipment) and health sector development (medical equipment)

H.E. Kuniyuki Nakahara, Ambassador of Japan to PNG and Hon. Patrick Pruaitch, Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea, signed the Exchange of Notes for the “Project for Economic and Social Development Program for maritime security (three speedboats and telecommunication equipment) and health sector development (medical equipment) of PNG” on 25th June. The Government of Japan extends a grant \1 billion Yen (approximately 32 million Kina) for three speedboats and telecommunication equipment and 900 million Yen (approximately 29 million Kina) for medical equipment.


The new speedboats will cover almost the entire maritime territory of Papua New Guinea to save lives, while the telecommunication equipment is expected to catch almost all SOS signals from the coastal ocean in PNG. They will make a considerable contribution to the development of the coastal safety and economy of Papua New Guinea. The medical equipment such as CT Scanner, X-ray machines are to be provided to the General Hospital in Port Moresby and provincial hospitals for assisting the PNG government’s efforts to tackle infection including COVID19.
